Holschlag Hare

$3.40

This is a mid-depth pattern with 1/50th or 1/4oth-oz eyes. It’s an excellent search pattern for covering lots of water, but can also be allowed to sink deeper and twitched slower. The rabbit-fur tail produces outstanding undulation, without the excessive fur that makes so many rabbit flies nearly impossible to cast when wet. A large deerhair head really pushes water, and its shape means the Hare darts extremely well with rod tip twitches. One of the most versatile and effective subsurface patterns ever.

The Hare is available in four different colors:

White Holschlag HareWhite Holshlag Hare

Over the course of the entire season, white is the color Tim uses the most. It’s not always the best, but many days it is. The number of fish over 18 inches that Tim and his guiding clients have caught on white is amazing.

Now Available in 2 Weights

Sorry, the 1/40th-oz weight is temporarily out of stock

The standard 1/50th-ounce (with orange eyes) is the most versatile. The new, heavier 1/40th-ounce (with yellow eyes) is excellent for situations where you need a heavier fly that will get deeper and stay down better.

Black Holschlag HareBlack Holschlag Hare

Our human eyes can’t see black in the water, but fish sure can. When the water is really dirty or extra clear, black is often deadly. Put on a strike indicator and give it a try.

Yellow Holschlag HareYellow Holschlag Hare

Tim says he has loved yellow since he was a kid. When the water is off-colored in the spring or if it has a brown algae stain in the summer, yellow is terrific.

Olive Holschlag HareOlive Holschlag Hare

New! In extra-clear streams and lakes, the brownish Olive version is often much better than white, black or yellow. If your waters develop high clarity during some of the year, be sure to try the Olive Hare.

Tim Holschlag Signature Subsurface Flies
All of these flies have caught thousands of fish — smallmouth as well as other fresh and saltwater species. Based on their weights and sink rates, these patterns cover shallow, mid-depth and deeper water situations. The various colors are those Tim has found to be effective under the widest variety of conditions. And they are not cheaply constructed imports like the flies most shops offer. Tim’s professional American tiers turn out durable flies of the highest quality.
