Description
Adventures of a Fishing Bum – 27 True Tales
by Tim Holschlag — New in 2017
This is not a how to catch ‘em book, it’s a book of stories. A half-century of roaming the outdoors has given Tim Holschlag plenty of fascinating experiences. From Maine to Minnesota, from Florida to Hawaii to South Africa, Tim has fished over 400 rivers, hundreds of lakes, and a few oceans.
Now you can read all about it!
— Do you know about how Tim got left for dead in the desert?
— Have you heard about his mountaineering experiences?
— Want to know about the river of no escape?
— What happened when he got hooked in the eye?
— How about the time he was dragging a large animal in his teeth while swimming (wearing just socks and underwear) in murky alligator-filled water?
Of course, there are plenty of good fishing stories too.
It’s all here in this great book. You’ll be entertained, enlightened and educated. And you’ll feel like you’re right there with him on these adventures.

I got two of your books for Christmas (“River Smallmouth Fishing” and “Adventures of a Fishing Bum”) and I wanted to tell you they’re fantastic! My passion is wading small streams and fishing for smallmouth bass, plus all the other species that come along. So thanks for the great info and entertainment!
I’ll probably be buying more books for a couple of my buddies.
P.S. I got your hat a couple years ago, and I love it, too!
Mark Werstein, Pennsylvania –
I read this whole book from start to finish. Great stories! Thanks for some very interesting adventures. At my age, I probably won’t make it back to Hawaii to fish for smallies, and South Africa and baboons are not my plans either. But I got a good taste of what these adventures are like from your excellent stories.

The stories are marvelous! I feel like I’m there with Tim in each story. I bought a book for each of my sons. We’re enjoying the book so much, so I’m buying more to give to several friends.

Besides the amazing stories, this is a nice book with great artist sketches and easy-to-read print on good quality paper. It makes a nice gift.

Tim’s latest book is filled with great adventures from every part of North America and even to South Africa. Known as the Dean of America’s Smallmouth Anglers, Tim will surprise his readers with his exciting and often humorous tales about trout, carp, muskie and pike. His story when fishing along a canal in Florida involving an otter and an alligator is not to be missed. His short stories, each 5 to 6 pages long, are perfect entertainment for his legions of fans and followers. Highly recommended.

Tim Holschlag’s latest book Adventures of a Fishing Bum offers insight into what it would be like to leave the work-a-day world and follow your dream. Tim made this choice decades ago. He had the courage to follow his dream of a life devoted to fishing and the good fortune to find a wife who supported his dream. In this book he shares some of the adventures along the road that Robert Frost called “the one less traveled by.”
The arrangement of the book makes it easy to read either as a whole or just a chapter at a time. The stories move quickly and each paints a clear picture. We see Tim facing circumstances which range from dangerous to humorous.
In his other books Tim has shown us the most effective ways to catch smallmouth bass in rivers and streams. In this book we get insights into what it took to accumulate his vast knowledge of smallmouth bass fishing. If you have enjoyed his other books or wonder what it might be like to devote your life to fishing, you will definitely like this one.
I have been able to fish with Tim enough to realize that he has led a truly unique life and to appreciate the valuable contribution he has made to smallmouth bass fishing. If you love fishing, especially for smallmouth bass, you will want to add this book to your collection.

Tim,
I have been meaning to write to you to tell you how much I am enjoying your new book. I feel like I am with you as I read. Thanks for writing the book and I hope you put together another one sometime.
We need to fish together. The stories got me going about heading north, some day.
Thanks for the great book, Tim! And let me know if you are ever in my area.
Best,
Al Leemhuis
Jim Walker –
Hi,
I just finished the book Adventures of a Fishing Bum. I will say with great enthusiasm that I truly enjoyed reading this book. Imagine sitting in a diner with your fishing buddies after a morning of smallmouth fishing and having a seasoned veteran spin some yarns about memorable fishing trips. That’s how I felt as I was reading the book. I also appreciated the quiet ethic of conservation and respect for wildlife that is woven throughout the stories. Tim is a wonderful story teller, and I am sure Lyn helped with the writing craft, too! Thanks again for a great read!

Tim’s new book, Adventures of a Fishing Bum, is delightful, entertaining and endlessly surprising. I was amazed by the wonderful variety of stories. From the Rocky mountains to the jungles of Africa, this book is totally captivating. Even for someone like me, who doesn’t fish, every story pulled me in. I loved the details of the wild places, the colorful characters and Tim’s smooth, easy way with words. I know Tim is a catch-and-release man, but this book is a keeper!
Geri Brummond –
Tim certainly has a knack for words, whether telling of his fishing escapades at Plum Creek as a child, as an adult in such unusual places as the Karoo Desert in South Africa or dozens of places in between.
This is a book you can pick up any time and read a fascinating tale or two. They pretty much involve fishing, but there are dozens of interesting tidbits that are sure to capture your interest and imagination.
Definitely a ‘must read’ choice.

Ed Hoffman –
Tim Holschlag’s new book chronicles his lifelong “magnificent obsession” of fishing mostly for smallmouth bass. The 27 stories in his Adventure book are great reading and a reminder that smallmouth bass can be found in some pretty unusual and interesting locations around the world.
Tim is a very accomplished writer, and his stories are told with grace and humor. A very highly recommended book! And I am getting three more as gifts for friends.
